Saffron Walden
Hmmm.Lived there for, oooh, 4 years give or take. Left in early 2006 for flatter climes.
I won't bore you with a history lesson, but here is a history of SW provided on various websites if you want to look for them.
It *IS* a nice town. On a spring/summer morning it's a very nice walk over the Common towards the Town centre. Unlike a lot of large cities (or at least a lot of large cities in the very near future) it still has a number of green spaces. The only real downsides as I see it are:
a) public transport is a joke;
b) some young people have decided that destroying property is a good wheeze.
For a place to only have the above wrong with it is, I guess, pretty good. And since June 2003 the telephone exchange has been ADSL enabled. Woot.
But it gets coooooooooooold. Here are some photos of nice weather in late January 2003.
